snowhites:

“But the Queen Arwen said: ‘A gift I will give you. For I am the daughter
of Elrond. I shall not go with him now when he departs to the Havens;
for mine is the choice of Luthien, and as she so I have chosen, both the
sweet and the bitter. But in my stead you shall go, Ring-bearer, when
the time comes, and if you then desire it. If your hurts grieve you
still and the memory or your burden is heavy, then you may pass into the
West, until all your wounds and weariness are healed. But wear this now
in memory of Elfstone and Evenstar with whom your life has been woven!’ And
she took a white gem like a star that lay upon her breast hanging upon a
silver chain, and she set the chain around Frodo’s neck. ‘When the
memory of the fear and the darkness troubles you,’ she said, ‘this will
bring you aid.”

And Aragorn the King Elessar wedded Arwen Undomiel in the City of the Kings upon the day of Midsummer, and the tale of their long waiting and labours was come to fulfilment.

Aragorn: I just got a date with Arwen. Pretty excited about it.

Legolas: What? You’re a human and she’s an elf!

Aragorn: So?

Legolas: I just think people of certain races need to stop looking outside of those races for a partner, okay?

Aragorn: Um…are you maybe referring to something that happened to you?

Legolas: I don’t want to talk about it.

Why do you fear the past? You are Isildur’s heir, not Isildur himself. You are not bound to his fate. The same blood flows in my veins. The same weakness.

LOTR [films] | Arwen’s Mirroring

  • Fellowship of the Ring:

Arwen: “Why do you fear the past? You are Isildur’s heir, not Isildur himself. You are not bound to his fate.”

Aragorn: “The same blood flows in my veins. The same weakness.”

Arwen: “Your time will come. You will face the same evil, and you will defeat it.”

  • Two Towers:

Aragorn: “I am asleep. This is a dream.”

Arwen: “Then it is a good dream. Sleep.”

Elrond: “Why do you linger here when there is no hope?”

Arwen: “There is still hope.”

  • Return of the King:

Elrond: “That future is long gone… Nothing is certain.”

Arwen: “But it is not lost… Some things are certain.”

Through her dialogue, it is clear that Arwen is a hopeful character. Notice the way in which she reflects what is being said to her, subtly turning negativity into something that is more positive. She breathes life and hope into doubt and despair. In the end, she is the driving force behind Aragorn’s motivation, and it is not difficult to see why: She gives him hope.

Are you honestly telling me that Elrond did not plan on marrying his daughter off to Aragorn? Their names match for Eru’s sake! And besides, her name literally means ‘kingly lady’ or something along those lines… Elrond was definitely on some shady agenda.

Son of Eärendil, used to be best buds with Gil-Galad, bearer of one of the Three Elven Rings, Galadriel’s son-in-Law—Elrond’s all for the glory… I would be surprised if marrying his daughter off to the King of Gondor wasn’t the next thing on this guy’s bucket list…
