One of the dwarves jokes “that’s a fairy story” in the Hobbit movie. That line keeps me up at night sometimes.

I know that’s something people say when they don’t believe a story. But considering that Tolkien literally used the word “fairie” in his early writing and wrote the famous “On Fairy-Stories,” that line is either a brilliant piece of irony, or an amazingly dumb and unnecessary addition. Which one is it? I have to know.
